Traditional Decorating Style

June 5th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Styles

Traditional Decorating….traditional styling…..to me this is the room that is meant to be looked at and not used. My Aunt had a room like this.  You were allowed in there on special occasions like Christmas and Thanksgiving, otherwise, it was a room you did not go into, lest step foot over the threshold.

I have learned and realized, it wasn’t the room at all, it was my aunt.  The decorating, the furnishings however were traditional. Very orderly, very classic and very mature.  The lamps were classic in style, with silk lampshades in ivory.  The tables had a mix of straight and slightly curved lines with carved detailing. The window treatments were very tailored.  The furniture was arranged square to the room and the sofa was directly facing the fireplace. Traditional styling done to perfection.  No wonder I felt the room was off limits, just sitting in the wing chair would leave a print in the cushion, taking away from the perfection the room displayed.

So to help you along in your quest for a Traditional styled room add in a crystal chandelier,  a floral still life piece of art, a pair of candlesticks and tailored window treatment and you are well on you way to designing in the “traditional style”.  But please, what ever you do, please take the plastic protective covering off your lampshades…my Aunt never did!

Homes or rooms with traditional decorating style, are like the real heritage of our families, …this is why,the mots of my mature family members ,feel as they get rest when they enter them,…For me ,as a designing professional,it’s the large and closed space when I get inspired .
