Going ‘Green’ is no longer a trend; it’s a way of life.  And why shouldn’t it be?  By being conscious about recycling, water usage, energy consumption, etc, you can make a difference by reducing your carbon footprint and you can save yourself some money in the process.  Today there are companies and organizations that make it easy to live a ‘Green’ lifestyle.  There are companies who reward and pay you for recycling many articles and websites devoted to giving tips on water and energy conservation, and in this tough economy the U.S. Government will even incent you with a tax credit to improve your home with Energy Star appliances (visit energystar.gov/taxcredits for more information).

According to EnergyStar.gov, “In the average U.S. home, lighting accounts for about 20% of the electric bill.”  Lighting is a great place to start when trying to conserve energy and save money.  There are easy things you can do such as replacing regular light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs or turning the lights off after leaving a room, etc.  Let’s take this a step further, “[b]y replacing the five most frequently used light fixtures in your home with ENERGY STAR qualified models, you can save $70 each year in energy costs” according to EnergyStar.gov.  Wow, what a difference!  By updating your lighting fixtures you will modernize rooms and save money year after year!

There are two types of lights to consider when updating – Fluorescent and LED.  Both types are available in many different styles, come with warranties, run cooler, have a longer life than normal fixtures, and so much more.
